RAF, USAF and RCAF Chiefs unveil statue to WWII Spitfire Pilot And Poet At Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 2017

RAF FAIRFORD, UK – During this year’s Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), held at RAF Fairford, Gloucester, chiefs of the Royal Air Force and United States Air Force unveiled a maquette model statue in memory of John Gillespie Magee Jr. as part of the fundraising effort to erect a memorial to him in Wellingore, Lincolnshire.

John, an American citizen, served with the Canadian Air force during WWII and was stationed at Wellingore airfield. Aside from flying Spitfire, John was a well-known poet and is the author of the pilot’s poem, “High Flight”.

At the age of 19, he took off on a routine training flight with 412 Squadron (Royal Canadian Air Force) and on his return, while descending through cloud, collided with a flight from RAF Cranwell. Both planes crashed and both pilots were, sadly, killed.

He is buried in Scopwick Cemetery close to Wellingore.

The unveiling at RIAT precedes a larger memorial that will be based in the village of Wellingore and will be a 1.5 life size bronze sculpture of John Magee in pilot uniform with a relief plaque inscribed with the High Flight poem.

The sculptor of the piece is Mr. Anthony Dufort FRBS, SPS, MA, a renowned artist with many significant works on display throughout the UK.

The project is supported by groups in the UK, Canada and the USA and patrons of the project including Reverend Canon F. Hugh Magee (brother of John Magee), Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Graydon GCB CBE and Carol Vorderman MBE.

“High Flight” is known as the pilot’s poem and is well known to contemporary air force pilots around the world.

Other: High Flight Poem

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth

Of sun-split clouds, –and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of –Wheeled and soared and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there

I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung

My eager craft through footless halls of air…

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue

I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace

Where never lark or even eagle flew —

And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod

The high untrespassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Jaguar Recreates Iconic James Bond Car Stunt To Debut Their New SUV

LONDON, UK – The new Jaguar E-PACE has set an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title during its world premiere. The compact performance SUV leapt into the record books with a 15.3 metre-long jump complete with a 270-degree corkscrew-like ‘barrel roll’.

Demonstrating the agility, precision and performance of Jaguar’s newest SUV, the feat was the final test for E-PACE after 25 gruelling months of work across four continents to ensure extreme durability and that it lived up to Jaguar’s Art of Performance philosophy.

– All-new Jaguar E-PACE revealed with epic barrel roll

– Dynamic twist sets an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the Furthest Barrel Roll in a Production Vehicle

– Final test proves E-PACE lives up to Jaguar’s ‘Art of Performance’ philosophy

– Inspiration from cinema’s most iconic car stunt

– Attitude and stance come as standard with Jaguar’s new compact performance SUV

– Sports car looks with SUV practicality for the next generation of Jaguar customers

– Agile, responsive chassis and sports car driveline technology make E-PACE the hot hatch of its segment

Price from £28,500, customers can order and configure their E-PACE at www.jaguar.com with order books open now.

The E-PACE completed its world record jump at ExCeL in London – one of only a handful of venues in the UK big enough to accommodate the 160-metre run-up and run-off vital for the 15-metre leap.

Behind the wheel was stunt driver Terry Grant, who has completed stunts on many film sets and holds an impressive 21 GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™titles.

Unsurprisingly, the barrel roll is not one to be tried at home; months of testing and analysis were completed to fine-tune the stunt, including achieving precisely the correct speed of run-up. The ramps were modelled extensively using CAD before any jumps took place. Terry experienced a G-Force of 5.5 during the 270 degree twist, and required a 160-metre run up to hit the air at the correct speed.

The Jaguar E-PACE is a five-seat, compact SUV that packs the design and performance of a Jaguar sports car into a spacious, practical and connected all-wheel-drive vehicle.

Trademark Jaguar driving dynamics and design put the brand’s sports car DNA in a practical design packed with advanced technologies to keep you connected.

The E-PACE is the newest member of Jaguar’s SUV family, joining the ground-breaking all-electric I-PACE Concept and the 2017 World Car of the Year, the Jaguar F-PACE – itself launched with a spectacular GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™setting loop-the-loop in 2015.

The exterior design is inspired by the Jaguar F-TYPE sports car and characterised by the distinctive Jaguar grille, muscular proportions, short overhangs and powerful haunches that give the E-PACE a bold and purposeful stance, instantly communicating dynamic agility. Jaguar sports car DNA is also evident in the fast sweep of the roofline and the distinctive side window graphic.

Institut Marquès Offers Less Anxiety During Fertility Treatments

Institut Marquès at the ESHRE Congress

Less Anxiety During Fertility Treatments

– Embryomobile, an application created by Institut Marquès, allows to observe the evolution of the embryos while they are in the incubator

– The results of this application’s use have been presented at the Congress of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE)

– 91% of the patients who have used the Embryomobile say that it helped them feel much calmer during the IVF process. They connect an average of four times a day.

Assisted Reproduction treatments often create anxiety in patients, especially during the days they are waiting for the development of their embryos.

That is why Institut Marquès offers a pioneering service worldwide that helps the well- being of future parents during the treatment. This is the Embryomobile, an application that allows observing the evolution of the embryos from home while they are in the Embryoscope (a high-technology incubator with an incorporated video camera that films their development).

Patients can do the follow-up from home or from any other place, as embryologists do in the laboratory, from the time of fertilization until the day of the transfer to the maternal uterus, five days later.

The Centre has presented the results of the use of Embryomobile at the annual conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) in Geneva (Swittzerland).

Almost 400 patients from all over the world participated in the study. All of them valued the experience positively and 91% commented that the Embryomobile helped them feel much calmer during the process.

Dr. Federica Moffa, gynaecologist at Institut Marquès, says: “The Embrymobile has been very well accepted among our patients, because it allows them to get much more directly involved in the process and helps them establish the first emotional relationship with their future child. It is as if they go into the laboratory from home. An example of transparency in our way of working”

Choosing the best Embryo

More than 3.000 patients have already used this system and frequently during the day (an average of 4 connections daily). According to Institut Marquès, 43% of the participants in the study connected more than five times a day to see their embryos, 27% between 2 and 4 times and 23% once.

The study also shows that 51% of patients were able to choose the best embryo to get pregnant. Of these, 74% chose correctly the embryo to transfer or vitrify.

About Institut Marquès
