The 20th Habanos Festival Launches The World’s Most Exclusive Cigar

HAVANA, CUBA – The 20th Habanos Festival in Cuba kicked off with the launch of a new and exclusive limited edition Cohiba cigar, the Reserva Robustos Cosecha 2014, produced from specially selected leaves subjected to a three year aging process.

The new series has been produced in very limited quantities, only 5,000 numbered boxes embodying the exclusivity of Cohiba.

The launch will be the star of the Festival’s Welcome Night evening in the Salón de Protocolo El Laguito, in Playa.

The Habanos Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary of bringing the lovers of the world’s best tobacco together in Havana.

2017 was a fantastic year. We reached a record number of 500 million dollars in sales, a 12% increase over the previous year. Comparing ourselves to the luxury industry, as we always do, we overmatched it.  The luxury industry grew by 5% and we did it by 12%. In addition, we grew in all our main markets.

2017 has been a great year. We have achieved an all-time record in revenues of 500 million dollars, growing in all our main regions, so we are really happy.

Our main market in the world is Spain, France is second and China is the third. China includes mainland China plus Hong Kong and Macau. Traditionally, in the recent years, it was our third market and it keeps that position with enormous growth rates.

We have good prospects for 2018. We have the product, with a good tobacco crop. We have a line of new products that we have announced today keeping the focus on innovation in our top brands: Cohiba, Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta and Partagás. And we have a strong potential in markets where demand is growing. Not only China, but also countries in Latin America, other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, where there is a growing demand for Habanos that we have to and must satisfy.

For Habanos our main markets continue to be the same as in the recent years: Spain is number one, France is number two, and China consolidates as number three. When we speak about China we include mainland China and Hong Kong and Macau. This year China increased by 33 percent in value sales.

We are confident in continue to grow in 2018. We have a good tobacco crop this year, we have a full range of initiatives and product novelties that has been announced today in the Habanos press release and we will be presenting during the Habanos Festival. We continue innovating in our top brands and products, creating an offering for our consumer experience in the premium tobacco sector.

The 2017 crop, according to the reports by Tabacuba and though we suffered the effects of hurricane Irma, didn’t suffer any damages and we expect a really good quality and very good production.

Our main novelties within the standard portfolio include three new rings for the Maduro line of Partagás. One comes from the portfolio we already had in Casa del Habano, Maduro Nº 1, with the addition of Maduro Nº2 and Maduro Nº3 with a mature layer that perfectly fit in the strong taste of the line. We also have announced three limited edition lines: H. Upman, Romeo y Julieta and Bolivar. It is important to stress that we have a new vintage line with Cohiba Robusto Cosecha 2014. Also, we are announcing a very special product for the 20th Habanos Festival. We are talking about 450 limited edition humidors with a special ring by Romeo y Julieta: the Grand Churchill Cepo 56.

The Laureus World Sports Awards 2018 Monaco

Roger Federer Wins Sportsman And Comeback Of The Year at Laureus Awards

MONACO – Roger Federer was the big winner at the 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards on Tuesday night, picking up the Sportsman of the Year and Comeback of the Year awards at the ceremony in Monaco.

The Swiss tennis icon, who reclaimed the world No 1 ranking after overcoming a serious knee injury and winning his 20th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open last month, fought off competition from Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Nadal to land the Sportsman of the Year award.

Federer’s awards were his fifth and sixth since the Laureus Awards began in 2000, making him the most decorated winner in its history.

” This is a very special moment for me,” Federer said. “Everyone knows how highly I value my Laureus Awards, so to win another would have been wonderful, but to win two is a truly unique honour. And so unexpected.”

“I am delighted and I would like to thank the Laureus Academy for all their support. It was an unforgettable year for me, to come back after a very difficult 2016 and these Awards just make it even more memorable.”

“When I won my first Laureus Award back in 2005, if you had said I would have ended up winning six I would not have believed you. It’s been an amazing ride.”

Serena Williams won the Sportswoman of the Year award, with Sergio Garcia claiming the Breakthrough award after his Masters success in April.

Other winners included football legend Francesco Totti, who claimed the Academy Exceptional Achievement Award for his services to Roma and Italy, and former track athlete Edwin Moses, who won the Lifetime Achievement award.

Swiss triple-world champion wheelchair racer Marcel Hug won the Disability award, while the Laureus Best Sporting Moment of the Year award went to Chapecoense, the Brazilian football club hit by an air disaster in 2016.

Elsewhere, Mercedes-AMG Petronas picked up the Team of the Year award for winning the Formula One constructor’s Championship in 2017.

Burberry February 2018 Show – London Fashion Week



LONDON, UK – 17 February 2018 – Burberry tonight celebrated ‘Time’, Christopher Bailey’s final collection for the brand, against a multisensory installation that forms part of a new collaboration with United Visual Artists (UVA).

‘Our Time’, a piece of work on loan from the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Australia, investigates the subjective experience of the passing of time through movement, light and sound, and was reimagined in collaboration with Christopher, to provide the backdrop to the runway collection. The installation’s pendulums swung to their own rhythm in time to the show’s soundtrack by Jimmy Somerville, The Communards and Bronski Beat.

Models including past and present campaign stars Adwoa Aboah, Jean Campbell, Montell Martin and Edie Campbell – who appeared in her first Burberry campaign in 2006 – revealed the collection, which revisited past icons and house codes, including the trench coat, the aviator, the cape, the poncho and the military coat as well as introduced new designs.

The Rainbow check, the latest iteration of Burberry’s most iconic symbol and designed as part of Christopher’s dedication of his last collection to LGBTQ+ communities, featured throughout the show. A capsule of reissued archive pieces from the 1980s and 1990s rereleased as part of this collection is now available for immediate purchase.

Cara Delevingne, discovered by Christopher and Burberry over seven years ago, closed the show and led the finale as models walked under a spectrum of rainbow laser lights.

‘The Jebel Jais Flight’ takes Guinness World Record for World’s Longest Zip-line

· Thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies will travel at speeds of up to 120kph to 150kph at a height of 1,680 metres above sea level on top of Jebel Jais mountain

· World’s longest zip-line – with a cable weighing in at over six tons now open to the public to take the heart-pumping flight

· Multi-million dollar tourism project in Ras al Khaimah flies into record books as zipline launches

Story: Thrill-seekers get ready: the longest zip-line in the world – ‘The Jebel Jais Flight’ – has officially opened today on top of the UAE’s highest mountain, Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah.

Guinness World Records confirmed the length of the Jebel Jais zip-line at 2.8 kilometers – the equivalent to over 28 soccer fields – which beats the previous 2.2km world record in Puerto Rico by a full 600 meters of extra heart-pumping adrenaline.

The world’s leading zip-line operator, Toro Verde in partnership with Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) spent over four months building the world’s longest zipline, which is located at more than 1,680 meters above sea-level and with a cable that weighs in at over six tonnes. Thrill-seekers will be suspended above the mountain as they prepare to take the flight headfirst in a ‘superman’ style position. Friends and family will travel on parallel cables at top speeds of up to 120kph to 150kph on this extreme adventure experience set in the rugged rocky mountain terrain.

The experience will see participants fitted with a special harness for the adventure, with the longest flight itself taking approximately two to three minutes. Once completed, guests will finish the bucket list flight on a suspended landing platform where they will be transferred to a second line, measuring in at one km, to complete their journey back to the ground. The zipline will be able to accommodate 200 people a day (100,000 per year).

A tribute to the UAE’s advancing tourism industry, the launch of the zipline has propelled the UAE’s emirate of Ras Al Khaimah into the major leagues of global adventure tourism. The zip-line will become Ras Al Khaimah’s flagship tourism product and will cement Jebel Jais as the adventure tourism hub of the Middle East.

The official certification was handed over today to HH Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, by the official adjudicator from Guinness World Records.

His son HH Sheikh Ahmad bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi was the first to trial the new zipline this morning, following the official certification by Guinness World Records.

There are no age restrictions on ‘pilots’ but the requirements are a maximum weight of (150 kg) and minimum weight of (45 kg) for ‘fliers’ who must be at least 120 cm tall. The price is AED650 per rider.

The launch of the world’s longest zipline is another milestone in Ras Al Khaimah’s campaign to transform the emirate into the region’s adventure and activity tourism hub. With the emirate benefitting from diverse landscape – including the Hajar Mountains and Jebel Jais – it has already built a following amongst walkers, hikers and cyclists with the campaign taking a leap forward in 2016 with the opening of the highly successful Jebel Jais Via Ferrata (Iron Path), hiking, climbing and ziplining product.
