HAVANA, CUBA – The 20th Habanos Festival in Cuba kicked off with the launch of a new and exclusive limited edition Cohiba cigar, the Reserva Robustos Cosecha 2014, produced from specially selected leaves subjected to a three year aging process.
The new series has been produced in very limited quantities, only 5,000 numbered boxes embodying the exclusivity of Cohiba.
The launch will be the star of the Festival’s Welcome Night evening in the Salón de Protocolo El Laguito, in Playa.
The Habanos Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary of bringing the lovers of the world’s best tobacco together in Havana.

2017 was a fantastic year. We reached a record number of 500 million dollars in sales, a 12% increase over the previous year. Comparing ourselves to the luxury industry, as we always do, we overmatched it. The luxury industry grew by 5% and we did it by 12%. In addition, we grew in all our main markets.

2017 has been a great year. We have achieved an all-time record in revenues of 500 million dollars, growing in all our main regions, so we are really happy.

Our main market in the world is Spain, France is second and China is the third. China includes mainland China plus Hong Kong and Macau. Traditionally, in the recent years, it was our third market and it keeps that position with enormous growth rates.
We have good prospects for 2018. We have the product, with a good tobacco crop. We have a line of new products that we have announced today keeping the focus on innovation in our top brands: Cohiba, Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta and Partagás. And we have a strong potential in markets where demand is growing. Not only China, but also countries in Latin America, other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, where there is a growing demand for Habanos that we have to and must satisfy.

For Habanos our main markets continue to be the same as in the recent years: Spain is number one, France is number two, and China consolidates as number three. When we speak about China we include mainland China and Hong Kong and Macau. This year China increased by 33 percent in value sales.
We are confident in continue to grow in 2018. We have a good tobacco crop this year, we have a full range of initiatives and product novelties that has been announced today in the Habanos press release and we will be presenting during the Habanos Festival. We continue innovating in our top brands and products, creating an offering for our consumer experience in the premium tobacco sector.

The 2017 crop, according to the reports by Tabacuba and though we suffered the effects of hurricane Irma, didn’t suffer any damages and we expect a really good quality and very good production.
Our main novelties within the standard portfolio include three new rings for the Maduro line of Partagás. One comes from the portfolio we already had in Casa del Habano, Maduro Nº 1, with the addition of Maduro Nº2 and Maduro Nº3 with a mature layer that perfectly fit in the strong taste of the line. We also have announced three limited edition lines: H. Upman, Romeo y Julieta and Bolivar. It is important to stress that we have a new vintage line with Cohiba Robusto Cosecha 2014. Also, we are announcing a very special product for the 20th Habanos Festival. We are talking about 450 limited edition humidors with a special ring by Romeo y Julieta: the Grand Churchill Cepo 56.
