Microsoft HoloLens 2 Revealed at MWC Barcelona

Barcelona, SPAIN — February 24, 2019 — Today, at MWC Barcelona, Microsoft HoloLens 2 was unveiled. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was joined by Alex Kipman and Julia White to not only reveal the new device, but also an array of other mixed reality announcements.

HoloLens 2

HoloLens 2 is the premier mixed reality device and is now more immersive, more comfortable and delivers more value right out of the box. With HoloLens 2, you’ll be able to interact with holograms in a more natural way, wear the device for hours on end because the comfortability has been greatly improved and take advantage of the broad range of offerings built on HoloLens that deliver value across a range of industries including healthcare and manufacturing.

HoloLens 2 will be available this year at a price of $3,500. Bundles including Dynamics 365 Remote Assist start at $125/month. HoloLens 2 will be initially available in the United States, Japan, China, Germany, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Australia, and New Zealand. Customers can pre-order HoloLens 2 starting today at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/hololens/buy.

In addition to HoloLens 2, Microsoft also announced:

Dynamics 365 Guides

Dynamics 365 Guides enhances learning with step-by-step instructions that guide employees to the tools and parts they need and how to use them in real work situations. In addition to the experience of using Guides on HoloLens, a Guides PC app makes it easy to create interactive content, attach photos and videos, import 3D models, and customize training to turn institutional knowledge into a repeatable learning tool.

This application will help minimize downtime and increase efficiency for mission-critical equipment and processes and becomes the third Dynamics 365 application that will work on both the previous generation of HoloLens and the new HoloLens 2. Dynamics 365 Guides is available in preview starting today.

Azure Mixed Reality Services

Microsoft also announced two new Azure mixed reality services. These services are designed to help every developer and every business build cross-platform, contextual, and enterprise-grade mixed reality applications.

Azure Spatial Anchors enables businesses and developers to create mixed reality apps that map, designate, and recall precise points of interest that are accessible across HoloLens, iOS, and Android devices. Developers can enable wayfinding across spaces to help their customers work and learn with greater speed and ease.

Azure Remote Rendering helps people experience 3D without compromise to fuel better, faster decisions. Today, to interact with high-quality 3D models on mobile devices and mixed reality headsets, you often need to “decimate,” or simplify, 3D models to run on target hardware. But in scenarios like design reviews and medical planning, every detail matters, and simplifying assets can result in a loss of important detail that is needed for key decisions. This service will render high-quality 3D content in the cloud and streaming it to edge devices, all in real time, with every detail intact.

Azure Spatial Anchors is in public preview as of today. Azure Remote Rendering is now in private preview in advance of its public preview.

Microsoft HoloLens Customization Program

HoloLens is being used in a variety of challenging environments, from construction sites and operating rooms to the International Space Station. HoloLens has passed the basic impact tests from several protective eyewear standards used in North America and Europe and has been tested and found to conform to the basic impact protection requirements of ANSI Z87.1, CSA Z94.3 and EN 166. With HoloLens 2, Microsoft is introducing the Microsoft HoloLens Customization Program to enable customers and partners to customize HoloLens 2 to fit their environmental needs.

The first to take advantage of the HoloLens Customization Program is the company’s long-standing HoloLens partner Trimble, who last year announced Trimble Connect for HoloLens along with a new hard hat solution that improves the utility of mixed reality for practical field applications. Today, they announced the Trimble XR10 with Microsoft HoloLens 2, a new wearable hard hat device that enables workers in safety-controlled environments to access holographic information on the worksite.

Story: MONACO, February 18, 2019 – World No. 1 tennis star Novak Djokovic, record-breaking gymnast Simone Biles, golfing legend Tiger Woods and the France Football Team were among the big winners at the 2019 Laureus World Sports Awards.

In the company of HSH Prince Albert II in Monaco, Novak Djokovic fought off tough competition from the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Eliud Kipchoge and LeBron James to win the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award. Novak, who won Wimbledon and the US Open in 2018 after returning from elbow surgery, is now a four-time Laureus World Sportsman of the Year.

Speaking after receiving his Award, Novak said: “A Laureus Award is what every athlete wants to win, and this one is a huge honour for me. Being among so many sporting greats here tonight, and hearing about the inspirational work Laureus is doing around the world, gives this Award a special meaning for me.

“Last year was an incredible season for me, returning from injury to win Wimbledon and the US Open is something I’ll remember forever. I am delighted and I would like to thank the Laureus Academy for their support.”

The Laureus World Sports Academy – made up of 68 global sporting legends – volunteered their time to vote for the winners in each shortlisted category which recognises sporting achievement in the 2018 calendar year. The Awards were hosted by actor James Marsden and featured entertainment from award-Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Jorja Smith.

After her record-breaking performance at the gymnastics world championships, in which she won four gold, one silver and one bronze medal, Simone Biles was crowned Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year. Biles, who also won the Sportswoman Award in 2017, made history last year by becoming the first woman to win four all-around world championships. At just 21, she now has a record 14 career world titles.

FIFA World Cup winners France became the first national football team to win a second Laureus World Team of the Year Award, fighting off competition from the world-leading teams including Mercedes AMG Petronas F1, Golden State Warriors and Real Madrid. French coach Didier Deschamps was in Monaco to accept the Award on behalf of the team.

Japan’s first Grand Slam tennis star Naomi Osaka received the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award for her victory in the US Open, where she defeated five-time Laureus Award winner Serena Williams. Osaka, 21, who is now number one in the world, makes history as Japan’s first Laureus Award winner.

Golfing star and ten-time Laureus Nominee Tiger Woods won his third Laureus Award, after winning the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year accolade at the 2000 and 2001 Laureus Awards. The American received the Laureus World Comeback of the Year Award for winning the Tour Championship, his first win in 1,876 days, returning to the game after spinal fusion surgery.

17-year-old American snowboarding sensation Chloe Kim, who became the youngest woman to win a Winter Olympics snowboarding gold medal at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, won the Action Sportsperson of the Year Award.  Slovak alpine skier Henrieta Farkašová and her guide Natalia Subrtova won the Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability Award after becoming the most decorated Winter Paralympian in Pyeongchang with four gold medals in vision-impaired Downhill, Giant Slalom, Super Combined and Super-G, plus silver in Slalom.

Attended by sports stars, celebrities and business leaders from around the world, the Awards also shone a light on the transformational work of Laureus Sport for Good. In 2018, nearly 300,000 young people all over the world directly benefited from more than 160 Laureus Sport for Good-supported programmes in 40 countries, working to end violence, discrimination and disadvantage by using sport as the tool for change.

Yuwa, a sport for development organisation that works in the rural region of Jharkhand in northern India, received the Laureus Sport for Good Award for their life-changing work in using football to improve the lives of young girls from disadvantaged communities. Through football, the girls overcome violence, build self-confidence and start to change perceptions of what a girl from a rural village in India is capable of achieving. One of Laureus Sport for Good’s key focus areas is promoting equality, empowerment and safety for young women and girls. Of the 296,300 children and young people Laureus Sport for Good programmes reached worldwide in 2018, 49% were young women and girls.

The Laureus World Sports Academy recognised marathon world record breaker Eliud Kipchoge with the Laureus Academy Exceptional Achievement Award. Kipchoge, who ran the fastest time ever in a marathon in Berlin with a time of 2 hours 1 min 39 seconds, broke the previous record by a massive 1 min 18 seconds.

Legendary football manager Arsène Wenger received the Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to football during his 22 years as manager of Arsenal. During his time there, he famously led ‘The Invincibles’ to an entire season unbeaten, and made a significant contribution to English football through his approach to scouting, training and diets, and his emphasis on an attacking mentality.

Arsène received a guard of honour at the Ceremony from legendary Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas and football legends Alessandro Del Piero, Luis Figo, Fabio Capello, Didier Deschamps, Cafu and Alex Scott. Arsène’s Award was presented by Cesc Fabregas.

Joining Xia in the top three Laureus Sporting Moment of the Year Nominees at the Awards in Monaco were; South Africa’s first black Test captain Siya Kolisi and Scottish rugby legend Doddie Weir, who is fighting motor neuron disease.

Luis Sánchez-Harguindey, Co-chairman of Habanos, SA. (in Spanish)

Luis Sánchez-Harguindey, Co-chairman of Habanos, S.A. (in English)

00:15 2018 has been a fantastic year for Habanos. In 2017 we already grew to 500 million dollars our revenues and in 2018 we reached the record figure of 537 million, which represents a 7% increase.

00:30 Well, Habanos had a fantastic year last year. In 2017 we already reached 500 million dollars and this year we reached 537 million, which is a great figure outperforming the luxury sector.

José María López Inchaurbe, Vicepresident of Development of Habanos, S.A. (in English)

00:45 The main region for Habanos continued to be Europe, which is our traditional market. And in this year it had an impressive growth of 13% in value sales, which for traditional and mature markets is a significant figure. Then we have Asia-Pacific, with a growth of 9% in terms of value. Africa and Middle East grew 5% during last year and Latin America grew 2% in 2018. So all our regions have experienced growth during last year.

In terms of markets, Spain continued to be the first market for Habanos and had an impressive 22% growth in value during last year and China has become our second market overpassing France with an incredible growth of 55% versus last year. Of course is an emerging market and the habanos culture is arriving to China in a very rapid rate so we are also encouraging a lot our investments in China. Internationally Renowned Artists Set To Illuminate United Arab Emirates In Major Light Festival

Artists from around the world come together to celebrate science, creativity and heritage for the Sharjah Light Festival 2019

Iconic landmarks will be lit up during 11-day festival which is set to see 1 million people visit UAE’s third largest Emirate

Over a million people from around the globe are expected to attend the United Arab Emirates’ Sharjah Light Festival, taking place between Wednesday, February 6th and Saturday 16th February 2019.

Following in the footsteps of world events such as Lumiere London, and Vivid Sydney, the show is expected to draw seven-figure crowds to the UAE’s third-largest Emirate, and cultural hub of the region.

The show, which attracted an audience of 1 million last year, is now in its ninth year and is welcoming both up-and-coming and established artists from across the globe who will light up 18 of the city’s landmark buildings. To add to the spectacle, the visual feast will be accompanied by music from international elite musicians.

Every February, the Sharjah Light Festival transforms the famous landmarks in several locations of the emirate into dazzling displays.  Utilising creative and innovative light technology and specifically curated music, the architectural beauties of the emirate, such as Al Noor mosque, Al Hisn Fort, Sharjah University City Campus as well as others can literally be seen in a new light.

Each year brings some new marvel in technology and design as well as new additions to the collection of buildings. Many of the designs are poetic and inspired by local culture, stories and traditions or incorporate nature and space, some are based on more modern art and design, all are beautiful and though provoking.

Sharjah Light Festival 2019 is enhanced by the addition of University City Hall which will be the façade for a special show referencing myths and mysterious tales from East and West, illustrated with varied drawing techniques and computer animations.

Located along the southern coast of the Arabian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula, Sharjah is the third largest and third most populous city in the United Arab Emirates. The Sharjah Light Festival extends to the east coast towns of Dibba, Khorfakkan and Kalba.

2018 saw well known artists and curators such as Larent Langlois, Gilbert Coudène as well as creative companies; Spanish Tigrelab and Bulgarian Artslide take the buildings of the emirate and interpret them anew for the festival.  Sharjah Light Festival 2019, taking the theme of “Family and Culture” is the next highly anticipated edition, from 6 to 16 February.
